Spring has definitely arrived! What makes us happy can also be a horror for many: pollen is flying around mercilessly again. Allergy sufferers have been struggling with watery eyes and runny noses for weeks. Fortunately, there are a couple of home remedies that can help you; we can help you with these.
# 1 PLAIN YOGURT
Because of the bacteria it contains, natural yogurt is a powerful defense substance. The bacteria have a positive effect on the production of the body’s own interferon, a protein that strengthens the immune system in the fight against allergies. Consume at least a quarter of a liter (about one cup) of natural yoghurt daily.
# 2 RED ONION
One red onion a day – because its high proportion of quercetin – inhibits the release of histamine in allergic reactions.
# 3 CORIANDER
Not a fan of cilantro? Doesn’t matter! Buy coriander juice at the pharmacy and take one spoonful every day. Shut your eyes and go for it. Shredded, coriander also helps against acute burning sensations and itching, best applied directly to the affected areas of the skin.
# 4 EUCALYPTUS OIL
Another good trick to fight pollen allergies: add a drop of eucalyptus oil to approx. ten milliliters (two teaspoons) of cooking oil (e.g. olive or rapeseed oil). Dip a cotton swab into the liquid and use it to wet the inside of your nose several times a day. Breathe!
# 5 STAY HYDRATED
Drink, drink, drink. The be-all and end-all. If you’re suffering from pollen allergy, it’s important to drink enough of the right things. Best to have two large cups of nettle tea a day – this strengthens the body’s own antibodies. Do you want to learn more about nettles? Look at our story highlight on Instagram.
If your immune system is weakened, it is also worth taking a look at the seasonal produce calendar and make sure you’re eating fruits and vegetables currently in season. These often have the most vitamins and give our body exactly what it needs most. You can find our AYA season calendar in the Spring Kit!
